Fiona James-MartinView Bio
Fiona is a Partner at Carlyle and is also Head of our Interim Practice. Working broadly across sectors, Fiona specialises in identifying and attracting the best non-permanent talent for board, executive and senior advisory roles. She has a proven track record within the Accountancy, Finance and Business Change functions and a growing specialism within IT/Technology across a range of senior and specialist roles.
Within Carlyle Fiona is responsible for hosting our programme of Interim events, which focuses on providing a forum for discussion regarding the changes, opportunities and challenges within the senior interim market across the UK.
Fiona has over 15 years’ experience in senior and interim recruitment, including holding leadership and Director roles in other practices.
Carol-Ann SearlesView Bio
Carol-Ann is our Managing Partner, responsible for some of our most valuable long-term relationships and for the high-level operational management of the business.
She has over a decade of senior Search experience placing executive and Board level professionals in leading businesses across the UK. During this period her partnership based approach to Search and ability to understand her client’s business have earned her a noteworthy reputation within her key markets. She has built strong, established networks of senior contacts across her key disciplines, which typically include Finance Directors, MD’s/CEO’s, Sales & Marketing Directors and HR Directors.
A regular presenter of Non-Executive Training for the IoD, Carol-Ann provides advice for those looking to attain executive and non-executive Board level positions. She also co-hosts regular board room lunches with our Legal, Accountancy and Financial Services partners. In addition, she co-manages the Nexus Group, designed to encourage discussion and collaboration between senior women in leadership roles.
Carol-Ann was previously a Director of a successful Employment Law business which was sold to Croner. Prior to that, after qualifying with a BSc as well as with the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD), she held a number of senior HR roles within listed businesses, as well as previously holding Board positions with other businesses.
Duggie CarlyleView Bio
Duggie is the Founding Partner of Carlyle, which was established in 2002 with the intention of offering outstanding service and consistent results, whilst building meaningful and sustainable relationships.
As well as being responsible for the strategic growth of the organisation, Duggie remains an active and passionate Search professional, managing some of Carlyle’s key relationships and heading some of the practice’s highest profile assignments. With an interest and heritage in technology he has an enviable track record and reputation for delivering within CIO, CTO, CMO and the growing Digital market. Additionally, he has run multiple C-suite assignments in the Financial Services industry and enjoys an extensive network across Retail Banking, Insurance, and Life & Pensions.
As part of his interest in entrepreneurial business thinking, Duggie has helped multiple growth organisations form dynamic Boards and develop their Leadership teams. He is an investor and advisor to several fast growth and technology based businesses.
A graduate in Communications, Duggie’s early career was with the then fledging ScottishTelecom, before joining a NASDAQ listed, Boston based software company.
James ColhounView Bio
James is Head of Carlyle’s Board Practice. He has extensive senior Search experience, including 13 years with Spencer Stuart, where he was a Partner and ran the UK CFO Practice. He now works across a variety of our sectors, operating from both Edinburgh and London, specialising in senior executive and non-executive appointments across all sectors and functionally across Finance, HR and Legal.
James has a proven track record placing and advising numerous FTSE 100 and 250 Group Finance Directors and Treasurers. He also enjoys a growing reputation at Board level within dynamic SMEs and owner/founder businesses.
James is responsible for hosting Carlyle’s Finance and Rising Star forums, which focus on providing discussion and networking opportunities for Finance leaders from across the UK, as well as for exceptional emerging talent.
A qualified lawyer and Edinburgh University graduate, James has invested 15 years of his career in the Search industry.
Colin WeirView Bio
Colin has over two decades of success in attracting talent for permanent and interim roles at mid to executive level. He manages clients offering growth and transitional opportunities within Regulatory Risk, CASS, Compliance, Banking, Treasury and Asset Management. He is experienced at attracting and identifying senior executives and domain experts, including specialist teams.
Known for his hands on and personable approach, he values long-term relationships with both candidates and clients, many of whom he has worked with for many years across multiple brands and countries. He has a successful track record with many of the leading Financial Services businesses in the UK, which is reflected in his network of senior decision makers.
Colin has a pedigree and focus in the Risk and Treasury space, and is responsible for the establishment of the Carlyle Risk Forum, which is a forum for debate, discussion and collaboration between senior professionals within the sector.
Colin has dedicated over 20 years to the Search and recruitment sector and has previously held leadership and Director roles in other leading practices.
Meg WhyteView Bio
Meg Whyte is a Graduate Client Delivery Manager within Carlyle and supports the team on key assignments across our Executive Search, Senior Interim and Board & Advisory practices. She is responsible for undertaking detailed market mapping and research exercises, and for ensuring the efficient administration of the Search process, including the delivery of regular market intelligence reporting for clients.
Meg works on assignments within a range of sectors, including financial services, digital and technology, assisting on a variety of executive and non-executive roles.
Meg graduated from the University of Cape Town with an Honours Degree in Film and English before beginning her career within marketing. She held marketing positions within the UK and internationally, before completing Carlyle’s graduate programme and subsequently joining the firm in a full-time role.
Jacquie HarrisView Bio
Jacquie joined Carlyle as a consultant following a successful international career with global executive Search firm Heidrick & Struggles, where she undertook senior financial services assignments in Asia Pacific and the broader international markets. Previously, she headed up the research and execution division for an international boutique firm in Asia.
Jacquie has extensive Search experience within the international financial markets across a broad range of sectors, including Global Markets, Investment Banking, Asset Management, Private Banking, Hedge Funds and Alternative Investment.
Within Carlyle, she is responsible for client management and assignment delivery across our key sectors, with a focus on the Financial Services industry UK-wide.
She holds a degree in Politics from York University.
Dan IrwinView Bio
Dan Irwin is a Client Delivery Manager within Carlyle and is responsible for supporting the wider team on key assignments, undertaking detailed market mapping and research exercises as well as managing the logistics and administration of the Search process. He works closely with all functions within Carlyle to ensure we are delivering accurate, relevant market intelligence and feedback to our clients.
Dan works on assignments within a range of sectors, including Digital, Finance and Legal, assisting on a variety of permanent, interim and specialist roles.
After studying Psychology at The University of Glasgow, Dan worked as a Marketing and Research Intern at Carlyle, returning to take a full-time role following his gap year abroad.
Ally MaxwellView Bio
Ally is a Client Delivery Manager within Carlyle’s Interim Practice. Working across a range of sectors, including Digital & Technology, Finance, Charity, and Professional Services, she supports Partners and Associates in sourcing high-calibre, non-permanent talent for board, executive and senior advisory roles. Ally also leads the operations and events for the Interim Practice and manages our senior, non-permanent executive relationships.
Ally holds a degree in Philosophy from The University of Edinburgh and has previously held positions in the UK and internationally. She brings a perceptive approach to people and an aptitude for creative problem solving and lateral thinking to Search assignments.
Daniel KellingrayView Bio
Daniel is a Senior Client Delivery Manager within Carlyle, responsible for supporting on key assignments, managing candidate and client relationships and running the logistics and administration of Search assignments. Daniel conducts exhaustive marketplace mapping and utilises his keen commercial awareness to ensure excellent levels of service for both clients and candidates across multiple sectors and roles.
Daniel works broadly across assignments with a keen interest in Digital and Technology.
Daniel graduated from Aberdeen University where he undertook policy research work during his studies and developed an interest in, and aptitude for, research projects. He brings a methodical yet creative approach to research that enables us to provide a thorough, rigorous Search offering for our clients.
Service & Business Operations
Melissa CrahanView Bio
Melissa is our Finance and Operations Manager and is responsible for establishing and managing efficient financial and operational procedures. She is the first point of contact for all financial information and queries and manages the commercial relationships with our clients and suppliers. As part of the Interim service offering she also assists in managing our interim relationships on both client and candidate sides.
Liaising closely with Carlyle’s Partners, Melissa is responsible for quality assurance and for delivering accurate reporting and audits for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that we always meet our service promises.
Melissa has extensive experience in financial and operational management for Executive Search and recruitment businesses.
Rachel BellView Bio
Rachel is our Head of Marketing & Commercial and oversees all online and offline marketing, PR and event management. She is responsible for ensuring consistent high standards across all of internal and external collateral, including client briefing documents and reports. She also manages Carlyle’s digital presence, monitoring and providing feedback on our focus sectors and building relationships through online mediums with our clients, candidates and industry leaders.
Working in collaboration with the Partners and Associates, Rachel undertakes market research and the production of thought leadership, working with our network to create useful publications for our focus sectors. In addition, she manages Carlyle’s extensive programme of events, working closely with the rest of our team and key clients to produce a relevant, vibrant and valuable calendar of events throughout the year, across multiple geographies.
Rachel holds Masters Degrees in both Corporate Communications and History.
